Iron Deficiency Assessment and Infusion Therapy

Dr. Dilpreet Gill, ND provides iron infusion assessments and IV iron therapy in Abbotsford, Langley, & Surrey BC. Iron infusions may be considered for patients with iron deficiency who are unable to tolerate oral iron, have absorption concerns, or require more individualized iron replenishment. Recent bloodwork is reviewed before treatment. This may include ferritin, a complete blood count, and other relevant markers to determine whether an iron infusion is appropriate.

Looking Beyond the Ferritin Level

Iron treatment should include investigating why iron is low. Your assessment may consider dietary intake, heavy menstrual bleeding, digestive or absorption concerns, medication use, and other potential contributors. Further testing or referral may be recommended when appropriate.

What to Expect

If treatment is appropriate, iron is administered slowly through an IV in a monitored clinic setting. The specific iron product, dose, and number of treatments depend on your results, symptoms, medical history, and treatment response. Follow-up testing may be recommended to reassess iron status and guide ongoing care. Book an iron infusion assessment to review your bloodwork and treatment options.

Have Questions Before Booking?

Do I need a referral for an iron infusion?

A referral is not always required. Dr. Gill can review your symptoms, medical history, and recent bloodwork to determine whether iron infusion therapy may be appropriate.

Why would I need an iron infusion instead of iron pills?

An infusion may be considered when oral iron is not tolerated, is not raising iron levels adequately, is poorly absorbed, or when faster replenishment is clinically appropriate.

Will you help determine why my iron is low?

Yes. Your assessment can include looking at possible contributors such as dietary intake, heavy menstrual bleeding, digestive or absorption concerns, and other relevant factors. Further testing or referral may be recommended when needed.

What happens during an iron infusion appointment?

Iron is administered slowly through an IV while you relax in the clinic. You will be monitored during and after treatment for comfort and safety. Plan to be at the clinic for approximately 60–90 minutes, depending on your treatment plan.

How many iron infusions will I need?

This depends on your lab results, symptoms, medical history, and degree of deficiency. Dr. Gill will recommend an individualized treatment plan and appropriate follow-up testing.

Can I receive an iron infusion during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

Iron deficiency is common during pregnancy and may sometimes require IV iron when oral supplements are not tolerated, are not effective, or when more rapid replenishment is needed. Suitability depends on your stage of pregnancy, lab results, medical history, and care plan. Dr. Gill will review this with you and coordinate with your maternity-care provider when appropriate.
